Utilities Scam Alert

Scam Alert – It has come to our attention business customers in the Independence area are receiving threatening phone calls related to their utilities account demanding payment or they will be shut off. Customers are told they must go to a local store and purchase a specific prepaid card. If you receive a call regarding any bill you pay, please be cautious. The City of Independence does not take payments at any locations outside of City Hall and the Independence Utility Center. Also, there is no payment type requirement. If you have questions about your utilities account, please call Customer Service at 816.325.7930.
