Russell M. Reid Obituary

Russell M. Reid, 92, of Sibley, Missouri, passed away peacefully with his daughter, Gail, by his side on Thursday, April 21, 2022. Russ, as he was better known, was born April 19, 1930 in Flint, Michigan to William and Ada (Rae) Reid.

Russ, his parents and his two brothers, Delmar and Richard, moved to Kenmore, New York when Russ was a small boy. Russ graduated from Kenmore West High School in 1949. When he enlisted in the Army right after high school, Russ was listed at 6’3” and weighed only 150 pounds. He proudly served his country in the Korean War and after four years of service received his Honorable Discharge. Once he left the Army, he came home to marry the love of his life, Shirley Ann (Turton). They were married on July 31, 1954 and enjoyed nearly 64 years of married life together until Shirley, Russ’ soul mate, departed this life on April 12, 2018.

Russ was employed at the River Road Tonawanda Chevy plant in Tonawanda, New York. He followed in his father’s footsteps and worked at the plant as a tool and die expeditor. Russ retired from the Chevy plant in 1985. He worked at the Chevy plant in order to pay the bills and looked forward to retirement from working but he never stopped working on behalf of the Lord. He functioned in numerous capacities in his efforts to share Jesus with all that he met. Russ was an elder in the RLDS church and served as a youth leader and pastor. He and Shirley spent many summers as directors of the Jr/Sr High Youth Camps held at Allegheny State Park and Temple Grove. He also went on many missionary trips to Germany and Africa to share the love of Jesus. He loved these experiences and had many stories to share from these trips. He relished getting to spread the Gospel to whomever would listen and because of this passion, he was able to baptize many believers on his trips abroad.

Russ was predeceased by his parents and his two brothers. He is survived by his four children: Lance Thomas Reid of Portland, Texas, Gail (Paul) Fenton of Batavia, New York, Charles Reid and Tammy Lynn Reid, both of Sibley, Missouri. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Krysta Fenton, Kelsey and her husband, Josh, Morgan, Jennifer Reid, Jessica and her husband, Michael, Tringali and Nicole Reid. Russ has two great grandchildren; Tucker Morgan and Nolan Tringali and a third great grandson, Jackson Reid Morgan, who is due to be born August, 2022. Russ is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Irene (Renee) (Turton) Lane and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service for Russ on Sunday June 19, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Oak Grove Restoration Church located at 1203 N Broadway in Oak Grove MO
