Forgiveness:
As Christians we sometimes get fixated on all sorts of things that draw our attention away from the
simple, beautiful plan of salvation that promises the forgiveness of sin.
Of all the things we can hear with our ears or feel with our souls on this side of the veil, “Your sins are
forgiven” are the words that represent that which is most desirable in life or in death. The greatest gift
associated with administration, Laying on of hands, is forgiveness. James 5:15
In Genesis we find the experience of the first man, Adam, receiving information from a loving God in this verse:
Genesis 6:55 And the Lord said unto Adam, Behold, I have forgiven thee thy transgression in the
garden of Eden.
Acts 13:37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins;
39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the
law of Moses.
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. – Jesus
Moroni 6:8 And if they repented not, and confessed not, their names were blotted out, and they were
not numbered among the people of Christ; but as oft as they repented, and sought forgiveness, with
real intent, they were forgiven.
The question has been asked many times why it is that man may find it hard to forgive.
1. If this had not happened, we would have had a more perfect life
2. Illusion of being one of the good guys – Victim or Marter syndrome
3. Illusion of power
4. Illusion that we won’t be hurt again
Forgiveness is a restoration of a relationship:
Mosiah 11:140 And ye shall also forgive one another your trespasses: for verily I say unto you, He that forgiveth not his neighbor's trespasses, when he says that he repents, the same hath brought himself under condemnation.
2c My disciples, in days of old, sought occasion against one another, and forgave not one another in
their hearts, and for this evil they were afflicted, and sorely chastened;
2d wherefore I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another, for he that forgiveth not his brother
his trespasses, standeth condemned before the Lord, for there remaineth in him the greater sin.
2e I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men; and ye ought
to say in your hearts, Let God judge between me and thee, and reward thee according to thy deeds.
How has forgiveness set you free from the prison of our own making... Doors that swing only one way
and that can bind us down in a way that is stronger than any stone and steel that separates men and
women from each other and the freedom Christ wants to reveal in us.
