Isaac Newton Ketchum, Jr. Obituary

Isaac Newton Ketchum, Jr. was born on October 6, 1941 in Independence, MO to Isaac Newton Sr. and Sarah Helena. He had one half-brother Gale Oliver and two sisters, Sarah Mae and Ruby Elizabeth. After his father died in 1952, he decided that if something broke, he was going to learn how to fix it and became a jack of all trades. After he graduated from William Chrisman High School, he began working at a filling station as a mechanic. At age 22 he was drafted by the Army and served as an airframe repairman in Panama. When he returned, he met and married Brenda Jane and to this union came a daughter, Debra Lynn. He went on to work as a construction electrician for Armco Steel, met and married Sharon Kay and gave birth to a daughter Kimberly Dawn. He was an avid gardener and always had fresh onions and tomatoes to share. As he neared retirement, he met and married Janice Lynette, traveled extensively and worked as a deacon for The Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he was always first to arrive and last to leave. Isaac always made sure that elderly members had rides. Isaac died at age 80 at the Hospice House in Kansas City, MO from cholangiocarcinoma.

Isaac is survived by 2 daughters, Debra (Christopher) Hamilton of Lenexa, KS and Kimberly (Elizabeth) Ketchum of Fort Worth, TX; 2 granddaughters, Jacqueline (Jarod) Steinhoff and Abbi Hamilton; 2 great-grandchildren Everly and Sutton Steinhoff and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, half-brother, both his sisters and 2 of his wives (Sharon and Janice).
Donations can be made to St. Jude’s or Disabled American Veterans.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 9th from 6-8pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. Funeral service will begin at 10am Thursday, March 10th with burial to follow at Mound Grove Cemetery.
