A NEW THING

Hello, IIAW and Unity Center Friends,

God is doing a new thing here in 2023. Sarelee Rhoads, an IIAW friend, gathered area community services groups February 24th and initiated COLLABORATE EXTENDED HANDS (CEA). The goal was to create a directory of community service groups and to discuss and improve on all of our efforts to assist the homeless Beloveds and all citizens in Independence . About 35 people from 10 to 12 groups attended the 2 hour session. It was very encouraging and enlightening to meet representatives from many groups and hear what each group's focus is and where and how they operate in the community. We decided to meet monthly at a different location hosted by one of the service groups. This is a four year dream come true for the IIAW, whose beginning vision was to identify and link all churches and community groups together to give better, more comprehensive service to our city.

Our second meeting was held March 23rd at LUNCH PARTNERS, 700 W. Lexington Avenue. From this session, it was decided to have the IIAW host the next meeting on Thursday, April 27th at 6pm, give a tour of the Unity Center, and collect needed items for the SALVATION ARMY. The S.A. has provided a list of items they can use. That list will be sent in a separate email.

Each month a different service group will host the CEA meeting, so we can become acquainted with who they are, who they serve and what services they offer. Announcements of the meeting will be sent and all IIAW friends are encouraged and welcome to attend.

A directory in PDF form will be available to anyone who wants one. We see this as a useful tool in the hands of all citizens to assist the Beloveds and all Independence residents. All IIAW friends and area churches are urged to get one and refer to it as needs arise. Contact Muriel Luedeman at:

The needs of our city's residents are great and growing. Our citizens are our greatest resource to protect, encourage, and support in creative ways. COLLABORATE EXTENDED HANDS and IIAW are willing to stand in the gap to bring comfort and stability to individuals, families, and neighborhoods. Please pray for knowledge, wisdom, generous consistent assistance and open doors in executing God's plans for this region.
