Veronica Baker - Obituary |
Veronica Baker, 98, of Independence, MO passed away March 7, 2023. |
Visitation will be from 9-10am, with service to follow at 10am, Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Burial will take place in Mound Grove Cemetery. Veronica was born on August 7, 1924, in Defiance, IA to Nicholas and Elizabeth (VonTersch) Majerus. On May 9, 1942, Veronica married the love of her life, Francis Marion Baker, and devoted over 68 years to their union. She was primarily a homemaker, though she did not shirk hard work, when necessary, either around the home or in the community. She was especially dutiful in rearing her four children, making sure they were prepared for the challenges life would put in their path. In addition to being very active members of the Farview Restoration Branch, Veronica and Francis shared many hobbies together. When not tending their garden filled with tomatoes, for which she did all the canning, she could be found accompanying Francis on fishing excursions, reminding him to “just wait a little bit longer, they’ll start biting.” In addition to her activities with her husband, Veronica had many other hobbies she enjoyed. She was talented in crocheting doilies and afghans, with her masterpiece being a king-size bed cover. She loved baking, cake decorating, and tended to collect and share recipes with family and friends. She was especially renowned for making apple pies that, regrettably, had to be shared with others, even though those whom they were made for wanted to keep them for themselves. In addition to pies, Veronica always took extra care at Christmas to have homemade candy and caramel popcorn for her guests. She enjoyed shopping, whether at stores or scouring garage sales for jewelry and knickknacks. Veronica was also an avid fan of the Kansas City Royals, and though she will not be tuning in to the games on her television this season, she will certainly be looking out for their success this season. Veronica is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Bob) Harrison and Sheryl (David) Salter; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Francis Marion Baker; sons, Gary Baker, and Robert Baker; her parents; and 11 siblings. |
