LaVone Russell, 100, passed away on March 1, 2023. LaVone was brought up in a family dedicated to the Lord. Her dedication to church lasted a lifetime. She was a longtime member of South Crysler Restoration Branch. She was preceded by Virgil Sr., husband of 57 years, and a son Virgil Jr. Her father, Henry Meggers, mother, Maude (Lane) Meggers, and brother and sister Elmer Meggers and Emma Steckel. She leaves behind five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Nieces; Louise Smith, Linda Meggers, Deena Levine and nephew; Clifford Meggers. LaVone spent much of her life traveling, a favorite past time. LaVone’s life was filled with volunteer work: 27 years as supervisor of the Sunday school primary department, gray lady at Mercy Hospital, volunteer at St. Lukes Hospital cancer center, a member of the Laurel Club, Women's Leader at Stone Church, funeral dinner coordinator, vacation bible school helper, and organized crafts for reunions at Lake Doniphan. She was a charter member of the Good Sam's Club for 43 years and was also in the Birthday Club for 25 years. She was Known as “The Christmas Card Lady” at the nursing home. Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of LaVone on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Visitation will be at 9am, followed by the funeral service at 10am, and then a graveside.
