She graduated from St. Paul Teachers Collage in 1944 and taught school until she married in 1947. She met her husband, Joe, after he returned home from WWII. She worked at Oregon Technical Products for 20 years as the lead in the railroad harness department receiving several awards for her leadership and hard work. Joe and Marian relocated to Independence, MO to be more active in church work in 1990. Marian was a founding member of Lunch Partners and managed The Clothes Closet. She often brought home clothes that needed mending or zippers replaced. She retired from this volunteer work in 2010. Marian often had guests in her home who were moving to the area or needed a place to stay.
