Mary Ann (Shields) Winslow, 90, of Independence, Missouri, died peacefully on August 11, 2022.

Mary Ann is survived by her three sons, David Winslow (Debbie) of Independence; Lee “LD” Winslow (Stephanie) of Winter Springs, FL; and Mike Winslow of Independence; her one daughter, Paula Glaser (John) of Independence; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; her brother, Jim Shields of Ozark, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene W. Winslow; her parents, Henry and Gladys (Cupp) Shields; one brother, Billy Shields; three sisters, Betty Jo Shields, Norma Gail Shields and Fern Laffoon; one granddaughter, Danielle Winslow; and one grandson, Micah Winslow.

Mary Ann was born on February 17, 1932, in Independence, Missouri to Henry M. and Gladys L. (Cupp) Shields. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1950. After high school she worked for a time at the Bell Telephone Company and at Sears Roebuck until she met her future husband. She married Gene Winslow on February 9, 1957. She was a life-long member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (now known as The Community of Christ). Mary Ann spent many years in service to the church. She also volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Skylarks/Orioles leader. Mary Ann loved to sing. She was an avid member of both her church choir and the Independence Messiah Choir. When her children were older, she worked as a clerk for the Church at the World Headquarters (The Auditorium) until she retired.

Mary Ann loved people. She was like a mother to many and was a friend to countless others. Wherever she was, she could be recognized by her infectious laughter and radiant smile. She will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Monday August 15, 2022, at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 am on Tuesday August 16, 2022, at the Chapel. She will be interred following the service at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri, where her husband has been laid to rest.
