AUSTRALIAN RESTORATION NEWS MARCH 2023
AROUND AND ABOUT THE CENTRE PLACE

To the precious Saints in Australia, Greetings in Jesus' Name, two months of 2023 have come and gone and here we are "Marching" on. Marching on to Zion as we strive to live in the Kingdom of God. I think everyone gets an extra "kick," when they see a marching band, troop of soldiers, or something of that nature. It seems to cause a surge of adrenaline within our bodies that gets us "excited." Are you/we "excited" about Zion and God's Kingdom?" What are we doing, or can we do to exhibit the kind of excitement that will get the attention of others? That is to get the attention of others on behalf of Jesus Christ. A popular music group called "The Gaither's" sing a song that encourages us to "Get all excited, go tell everybody that Jesus Christ is King." Zion and God's Kingdom is not just for "us." We are called to be witnesses to the world, sharing the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I Peter 3:15 states: "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and be ready always to give an answer with meekness and fear to every man that asketh of you a reason for the hope that is in you," The winter has been fairly mild, so far and we look forward to the beginning of Spring. That will be the time for many retreats around the country. Plans are in the works for a full slate of camps and reunions this summer. Center Place Restoration School is continuing with a very good school year. Remodeling of the building is nearly finished. The sanctuary and surrounding hallway really look nice. Enrolment is over 230, which is good. All missionary boards under the Conference of Restoration Elders (CRE) are still active. The problems of international travel however are present and hinder mission trips. Three elders from the Center Place will be in five African countries in March. Several branches have been coming together for worship. They meet the first Sunday evening and third Wednesday evening of each month. The services are rotated around each time. Services have been good, but attendance is lacking.
The CRE is gearing up for a Spring Conference March 29-April 1, 2023 in Independence, Missouri. Many of the events of the CRE will be live steamed and available on the CRE and Waldo Avenue website.

Training Apprentices
I started my Apprenticeship as a Boilermaker (metal fabrication & welding) back in 1985 when I was 17 years old, in those days I was on $114.00 a week as a first-year apprentice today in 2023 they are on approximately $450.00. As a Tradesman I have been training apprentices on and off for most of my working life. Over the years it has brought me great satisfaction as I have seen young people through the shared experience of being taught by the tradesmen throughout the workshop, become mentally and physically fit and capable of holding a job anywhere they chose to go. As a member of the Church and later Priesthood, my apprentices received more than just a trade. I was always looking for opportunity to influence their lives for good. With God’s assistance, I helped some to give up Smoking for better health. I helped mend relationships with their parents and family members through counsel. Always being a listening ear and an influence for good. One asked me to perform his marriage service which was a great honour and I still have contact with them to this day. In time it would be a young man who was once an apprentice whom I had influence with and became good friends with named Adam who would return blessing into my life and my family. I was on holidays at the Gold Coast and received a phone call asking me if I would like a Project Manager Role at a company called Kador which did work for the mines. I spent a whole day with him looking through their 4 Sites and meeting my future manager and the managing director of the Company who offered me a job once I gave notice for considerably more money than I had ever earned which went on to help me over the next 13 years or so to be on the sort of money you only dreamed of as a tradesman. Adam helped me get into the Kador role and as I progressed into another company called RCR, I helped him get a start there on incredible money. God was present through all these experiences, Guiding and directing me and opening better doors as another closed, before the interview at RCR I already had secured a job that same day at a previous interview and was only going through the motions in my mind with the RCR one. However as I sat in my car waiting for the right time to go in and meet them. God’s Spirit and power filled my vehicle and blessed me, it was a rich experience and I knew I had to take the interview seriously. What unfolded was a miracle of events, God had preplanned the head guy from Bucyrus whom I had worked with, managing the most dimensionally correct Tri Structure for a Dragline ever built to that date while I was working at Kador. God arranged him to be visiting RCR and he saw me and went into the interview room and told the two top managers they would be crazy not to employ me which helped sealed the deal on much better conditions than the other job. I helped RCR win Dragline Tri Structures and feet etc. over the years, a dragline when fully assembled stands higher than the statue of Liberty.These years of great times helped us bring up our family to a point where they could stand on their own with God’s help making lives of their own. The good times at RCR wouldn’t last forever with the Chinese, South Koreans and Vietnamese undercutting all major mining projects, destroying many honest Australian companies, because we could not purchase materials for the price they could deliver finished product onshore. I now find myself on the tools again and in recent times I run the Parts Shed for a company called Shephard Transport Equipment and in particular I train all first year apprentices that start with us and after 6 months they are ready to start Rotating through the various sections of the main fabrication workshop. Two especially have been a joyful blessing, they came from good families who taught them manors and respect allowing me to invest in them all that God has given me to offer, I have no doubt they will go on to become great and both come back to me on a regular basis and give thanks for helping them learn. At present though I have a guy who was never taught respect and manors and believed from the day he started that he should be running Shephard’s. He feels entitled without actually earning his place and has been an arm wrestle every day to keep in the right and safe way. He has greatly increased my prayer life and with God’s help I have never given up on him. It’s now been two months and I was well within my rights in the 1st month to have him terminated and did seriously consider it, having more than enough documented evidence to do so. My manager and I have discussed at length his future but both of us could see that if he could ever see his place he had greater potential than most. He just had to choose it for himself and he would be unstoppable. I thank God and Give him praise, over the last two weeks there has been a change in him that I truly hope lasts. Rather than being disobedient he has been respectfully obedient. Rather than complaining about the heat, the work etc. he has just knuckled down and is achieving equal to tradesman times on jobs and rather than hiding items he hadn’t cleaned up properly after welding is going above and beyond in producing a quality product Shephard’s can be proud to offer the market. I know a lifetime of bad behaviour probably won’t be turned around without occasional backsliding and with God’s help I will continue to help prepare him for the challenges that are ahead of him. In finishing, I thank you God for blessing me throughout my life and at present for letting me experience what quality individuals are like to train in today’s world, and also now for the skills I am developing with your help in training one who has not had a the sort of upbringing that would be desirable, I thank you for being with myself and my family and trust you will bless all who a reading these words to see your hand in their lives as well. 3 Nephi 8 V12-16 And it came to pass that he commanded that their little children should be brought. So they brought their little children and sat them down upon the ground round about him, and Jesus stood in the midst; and the multitude gave way till they had all been brought unto him. And it came to pass that when they had all been brought, and Jesus stood in the midst, he commanded the multitude that they should kneel down upon the ground. And it came to pass that when they had knelt upon the ground, Jesus groaned within himself, and saith, Father, I am troubled because of the wickedness of the people of the house of Israel. And when he had said these words, he himself also knelt upon the earth, and behold he prayed unto the Father, and the things which he prayed, cannot be written, and the multitude did bear record who heard him.
3 Nephi 8 V18 And no tongue can speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak; 3 Nephi 8 V21-25 And it came to pass that Jesus spake unto them, and bade them arise. And while they were gone for bread and wine, he commanded the multitude that they should sit themselves down upon the earth. And when the disciples had come with bread and wine, he took of the bread, and break and blessed it; and he gave unto the disciples, and commanded that they should eat. And when they had eaten, and were filled, he commanded that they should give unto the multitude. And when the multitude had eaten and were filled, he said unto the disciples, Behold, there shall one be ordained among you, and to him will I give power that he shall break bread, and bless it, and give it unto the people of my church, unto all those who shall believe and be baptized in my name. And this shall ye always observe to do, even as I have done, even as I have broken bread, and blessed it, and gave it unto you. And this shall ye do in remembrance of my body, which I have shewn unto you. And it shall be a testimony unto the Father, that ye do always remember me. And if ye do always
remember me, ye shall have my Spirit to be with you. And it came to pass that when he had said these words, he commanded his disciples that they should take of the wine of the cup, and drink of it, and that they should also give unto the multitude, that they might drink of it. 3 Nephi 8 V42-43 And I give unto you a commandment that ye shall do these things. And if ye shall always do these things, blessed are ye, for ye are built upon my rock.
