Jackie “Jack” Neal Savage, age 86, passed away on Saturday February 18, 2023, in his home in Independence, MO. He was born on September 15, 1936, at home in Burlington, IA to Paul and Virgie (Duke) Savage along with seven other siblings: Gloria Loper, Donna Aukerman, Patsy Downer, Paula Rieke, Chuck Savage, Dan Savage, and Rick Savage. He married the love of his life Cyndra “Cyndy” Day on her birthday, January 20th, in Ft Madison, IA, the year was 1962.
After high school Jack went to work for Sylvania Electric. In 1959 he was drafted into the Army for the Cuban Missile Crisis. His basic training was at Fort Hood in Fort Hood, TX along with Elvis Presley, his claim to fame. Jack was then transferred to Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX and there was a part of the “Hell on Wheels” tank division. He finished his service to our country in 1961 and with Cyndy by his side, went back to work at Sylvania Electric until moving to Nauvoo, IL where Jack first began to work for the church. In 1976 he moved his family to Independence MO and there continued to work for and retired from the Community of Christ church. He primarily worked in maintenance as a “Jack of all trades.” From that position he transitioned to the security team at Community Christ Temple and finished out his time back in maintenance at the church owned Campus RV Park.
He and his family were members and attended Stone Church, where they were very active in the congregation. Jack was ordained to the office of Elder and a group Pastor in the church for 10 years.
Jack is survived by his wife Cyndy of 61 years and their three children, Tonya, Jeff, and Derek, along with their spouses, and 9 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Virgie Savage, his sister Gloria and her husband John Roper, sister Patsy and her husband Max Downer and brother-in-law Rod Rieke.
For those who would like to join the family to honor Jack with a “Celebration of Life Reception” on March 4th 2023 from 2-5 at Stone Church, 1012 W. Lexington Ave. in Independence.
In lieu of flowers family is requesting donations be made in Jack’s name to KC Hospice House
