Save Zion's water, and stop the Atherton Quarry -

 From: Riane Marsh

Save Zion's water, and stop the Atherton Quarry -

My name is Riane Marsh.  I live on the edge of Sugar Creek and Independence.  My husband Paul and I found out last week that the City of Sugar Creek is trying to approve a proposed strip mine next door to our home.  This would be an 800 acre limestone strip mine, 10,800 feet from the 42 wells that provide not only Independence, but also Blue Springs, Grain Valley and Lee's Summit with their water.

I am also a church member, I attend Missionary Restoration Branch and I firmly believe in the impending return of Zion and the gathering of God's people to Jackson County.  As a homeowner, I am concerned about my future neighbors, but as a member of this church and a believer in Zion's return, I'm appalled at the potential damage this mine will cause.  We could be looking at contamination of Jackson county's purest, safest water source.  We could also be looking at a massive scar across some beautiful rural country in the northern section of Jackson county.

We've been commanded to show stewardship over our possessions, our land and our inheritance.  We have been commanded to prepare for Zion and the gathering of the nations.  In an effort to fulfil those commandments, I would encourage and plead with everyone who believes in Zion's return to voice your disapproval of the proposed Atherton Quarry.  There will be a zoning meeting to change the current agriculture/industrial zoning of the parcels to a different type of industrial zoning which will give the quarry owners even more 'flexibility' to do other types of unspecified blasting and excavation.

Please help us save Zion's water source.  SUGAR CREEK, Missouri – The City of Sugar Creek’s Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on August 26, 2021 at 7 p.m., at the Mike Onka Community Hall, 11520 Putnam Street, Sugar Creek, MO 64054 The neighborhood watch group has asked everyone who can to wear yellow to show solidarity.  If you cannot make it in person, please connect to the "STOP the Atherton Quarry" Facebook page, and sign the petition at https://www.change.org/p/jc-chuck-mikulich-stop-the-atherton-quarry-save-sugar-creek

God bless,
